Stay at Home Daddy!

Clay worked crazy hours all during the holidays so when things slowed down from warp speed to light speed at work, he took some time off. He will be home with us all this week and we are so excited to show him the "ropes".

Yesterday we spent the morning at the zoo. Clay LOVED playing with Audrey and seeing her reaction to the animals and all the people. He loved it so much I accused him of "hogging" her. He denied it but I'll let you decide from the pictures!

They picked up a gazillion rocks, sticks and "seed pods" and played with them the entire time we were there. Audrey is becoming more and more interested in the animals each time we go but the rocks still win her interest the most!

Mommy was there! Here's the picture to prove it! :)

After the zoo, we headed to Zoe's for lunch. Audrey loves their chicken salad and so do I! We then went to the Botanical Gardens and let her run what little energy she had left out! It was a fun day!

I probably should have just titled this post, "Daddy/Daughter Day with Mommy Tagging Along to Photograph!". :)

Today, Audrey went to MDO and Clay and I went on a date! Then I went shopping and he brought Audrey home. She's now napping and he's gone to get a hair cut! Storytime and Kindermusik tomorrow, then home for Clay to hunt the rest of the week.

Church clothes

When I found the pink dress that I had Audrey's picture taken in, I also found a whole slew of other clothes. A bathing suit, a Christmas outfit, and this dress. Momma said that she remembers making the dress for me and that it took her forever. She was proud of it when it was complete! I think it is as cute as pie! I would have been proud of it too! It has a collar, sleeves, a gathered yoke, lining-- everything that I try to avoid! :)

Audrey wore it to church Sunday morning and she looked precious!

After looking at these images, I could have done a better job of ironing it! :)

He's a curious monkey...

.. that George! Curious George came to visit our local science museum Saturday and Audrey and I decided to go check him out. She has no clue as to who he really is but as soon as she saw him she lit up! She waved and smiled and I thought she was going to love getting to see him up close. Not so much. She didn't cry or anything but she didn't have a look of delight on her face either.

While we were there, we ran in to an old friend of mine! I met her when I lived in Dothan-- she lived in my neighborhood. We've reconnected through facebook and I was excited to see her after 6 years! She has a little boy that is two weeks older than Audrey and the two of them had a great time running around playing!

I have no idea why I didn't take a picture of her!! Geez!! Sorry, April! Hopefully it won't be 6 more years before we see each other again!

The Two of Us

The first photo below is me when I was 16 months old. The second one is obviously Audrey today-- also 16 months old.

I have this picture of myself in Audrey's room and I was so excited when we found the dress (who knows where the bonnet is!). I've always liked this picture of me as a baby because I still had red hair at this point. By the time I was 3 it had changed to white blond. As I grew older, it continued to darken to the light brownish red it is today.
It was so much fun to watch Audrey run around in the same dress that I wore 30 years ago! It reaches to her knees and billows around her when she walks. I was apparently a HUGE 16 month old because the dress is a size 3t. I must not have grown much in the next year or so because I have a picture of myself in the same dress around the age of three. My hair is white in the picture. I plan to go home next week so I'll steal it and post a copy of it for comparison next week! :)

1st: Park your Momma in a chair and get your supplies together.

2nd: Fill your tea cup with the finest tea (straight from the faucet no less).

3rd: Get the ice cream ready.

4th: Yell at your Momma for taking pictures and not drinking the tea properly.

5th: Enjoy your hard work.

6th: Don't forget to clean up!

2009 in Review

January:

Audrey was 4 months old and a master drooler. We spent lots of time practicing sitting and took every opportunity we could get to get outside. February:

Our 5 month old learned to sit up on her own and was so proud (as were we)! I went on a girls' trip to Fairhope and Audrey and Clay went to stay with his parents. I missed Audrey the entire trip and didn't enjoy myself as I should have. Anyone want to go on a girls' trip now?!?

March:

Audrey was baptised--- a new birthday! BoldI smocked her bonnet and dress. It was the first thing I'd smocked in about 4 years or so. I loved it! It was a bit fru-fru but what other time in your life can you wear a bonnet?

April:

Audrey's first Easter... We went to lots of egg hunts and Easter parties. Audrey loved the colorful eggs-- especially putting them in her mouth. This was my favorite outfit she had for the Easter season. I wonder if I can put her in a bubble this year?

May:

First Mother's Day for me! What a fun day! We spent lots of time outside playing with her push car and wagon. We took daily trips through our neighborhood, stopping to talk to the neighbors' cat at the end of the road each day. She loved riding in her wagon! She really started showing affection toward Clay this month-- getting excited when she heard the garage door go up-- signaling that "Daddy's home!".

June:

I volunteered for VBS at our church-- I was in the babies' room with Audrey. It was VERY overwhelming initially but by the end of the week I was having a great time. Audrey absolutely loved it everyday! She didn't take a morning nap but once! She also started standing alone this month. We waited and waited for those first steps to come.....

July:

....and at 10 months old she began walking! I'll never forget seeing her waddle across the living room to my mother's arms! Orr... when she was toddling across our bedroom with a look of the highest concentration on her face! Precious times!

August:

We had our sweet baby girl's first birthday party this month! It was a special day for us! We did lots of reminiscing about how our life had changed in the past year-- all for the better. I know that all parents say that but it is so true! Audrey has been such a blessing in our lives! We also took Audrey on her first trip to the beach. She loved the sand, the water, everything! We loved watching her play and experience the beach for the first time! I am NOT a beach person but I foresee many beach trips in our future if Audrey continues to love it as much as she did then!

September:

We started brushing Audrey's teeth with a big girl toothbrush this month rather than a baby toothbrush. She loved it and asks to brush her teeth all the time now.

October:

This month was probably the scariest month in Audrey's life for us (other than her actual birth). She caught a nasty virus and couldn't shake it. It culminated with a trip to the ER and an IV for dehydration. It was awful. This picture was taken on Halloween night and the next day we were in the ER.

November:

Delicious autumn!! We spent lots of time outside again this month and had lots to be thankful for! A healthy baby girl!

December:

Audrey's first snow! Her second Christmas and her first case of bronchitis. Thank goodness for good medicine!

It was a great year! I can't wait to see what 2010 has in store for us!
