6 Months

Audrey turned exactly 1/2 Saturday. I can't believe how fast the last six months have flown by! Clay and I have loved watching Audrey grow and learn new things each day. She amazes us. She is our greatest gift!

I took our precious gift to the doctor today for her 6 month check-up. She got 4 shots, one oral vaccination and she had her big toe pricked in order to check her iron levels. As usual-- she tried out every one of her vocal chords in protest. She was highly offended when the nurse pricked her toe but she didn't actually cry. She just poked out her lip at the nurse and the nurse responded with a laugh. I'm certain that was not what Audrey was aiming for! She did cry ferociously when she got those shots, though. That is my least favorite part of taking her to the doctor! The doctor's are pretty smart about it though-- they leave the "dirty" work for the nurses!

The doctor said she was growing very nicely and was just perfect. She weighs 15 1/2 pounds which is the 35th percentile. He said not to be concerned about her weight because her height and weight correspond. He mentioned how neither Clay nor I are that tall so Audrey will not be either.

She does have some congestion and a mild ear infection. Due to the congestion, he said we would treat the ear infection. He said that she probably didn't even know she had an infection because it was so mild. That makes Momma feel better about it-- at least I haven't been toting her around with her ear hurting and not even know it! So... she started 10 days of antibiotics today.

These are some of her latest tricks (and no, she won't perform on demand, much to our chagrin!):
-- blows lots of bubbles
-- babbles lots of vowels and has started the consonant /d/ sound.. da, da, da, da
-- sits up unassisted
-- pulls up onto all fours but does not crawl yet
-- pulls blocks from shape sorter, puts objects into sorter (not the blocks??-- her bunny rabbit)
-- reaches for Momma or Daddy when prompted to "Come to Mommy/Daddy"
-- laughs hysterically when her Daddy "corncobs" her
-- pushes away-- doesn't want to be rocked or snuggled unless she is very, VERY tired.
-- reaches and lunges for anything anywhere near her
-- loves to be ran around the house, thrown in the air, tickled, bounced on the bed, swung high!
-- mimics facial expressions-- most notably a squinty nose!
-- eats a jar of squash and carrots a day. Loves those carrots!!
-- does not like rice cereal-- we are going to try oatmeal with bananas tomorrow.
-- loves to be read to but that is becoming more difficult because she wants to hold the book and turn the pages. We end up just letting her play with the books.
-- enjoys riding in her car seat now! YAY!
-- likes to be held facing the front so she can see where we are going
-- rarely cries but "grunts" to make her feelings known about something
-- loves playing peek-a-boo
-- pulls the bumper of her crib down so she can see when we come in the door to get her up in the mornings or from a nap
-- sucks her thumb!! She doesn't have a preference for a specific thumb-- either one will do!
-- jumps like a crazy person in her johnny jump-up that Aunt Melissa and Uncle Shad gave her. Cackles the entire time!
-- can support herself in a standing position by holding our hands

We can't wait to see what she has in store for us during the next 6 months! Thank you Lord for your blessings!

Isn't it great to hear the doctor tell you they are healthy and growing well?! I loved that through the first year. I hated the shots but I loved going for his checkups. It was just nice to hear from the doctor that he was just like he was supposed to be!!

LOVE that picture at the top!

I like your header and new page decor!! I am sorry Audrey had to go through those horrible vaccinations, but I am glad to hear how well she is doing on her development!!! Sounds like she is ahead of the game! You know they say your first born girl will be your smartest child!!! It is hard for me to tell if this is true because Emily is only 1/2 of Anna's age! She is just perfect and I am sorry you have to take anitbiotics. Hopefully they won't cause upset stomach! You may want to have plenty of desitin on hand as a preventive for a rash.

Hasn't it flown by? It doesn't slow down from here either! Addison got her first tooth today! Bless her heart having to go through all those vaccinations in one day. She's a trooper! Don't you just LOVE it when she reaches for mama??? Melts your heart, huh?

It is amazing how much they learn to do in just 6 short months!! Time has flown by these past few months for us as well! I love to read what Audrey is doing because it makes me look foward to the next month with JT even more! We tried the rice cereal with apples and JT LOVES it~ maybe A would like that! How does A like the bananas and oatmeal?

I LOVE the picture at the beginning of your post!! Glad to know that she had a good check-up with the doc.

I saw your pretty little neice, Gracie, at school yesterday and spoke to her. I told her that I knew her Aunt Christi and her eyes got really big and a precious smile appeared on her face. Then she said, "She has a little baby." She was sooo proud to tell me that! Adorable little girl! Then I saw her a few minutes later in the "Town Square" and she waved at me and of course I waved back. ;)
