Dyeing Eggs and Resurrection Cookies

After our church egg hunt Saturday and before church services that night, we dyed eggs and made some yummy cookies.

First, let me just say that I have only boiled an egg one other time in my life. I googled how to do it then. I've never had a reason to boil an egg! Anyway, I boiled 8 eggs and only 3 of them burst open. Audrey was plenty happy with 5 boiled eggs! Luckily, the egg dyeing kit I bought had exactly 5 colors.

She wasn't really sure what was going on at this point.

The eggs turned out very well, I thought! Audrey loved the whole process! She was "dyeing" to get her hands in on it so I let her drop the eggs into the dye. She seemed to be amazed when I pulled them out and they were such vivid colors!

Since I already had her in her chair (a feat itself these days), we went ahead and made Resurrection cookies. A friend of mine shared with me that she does this with her family each year and I thought it was a wonderful way to teach Audrey about the true meaning of Easter. Darby from, Fly Through Our Window, also does this with her children and she posted explicit directions that included the bible verses to go with it. You can go HERE to view that post.

Audrey is a tad too young to complete the whole lesson with her but she did contribute by helping me break up the pecans. This symbolizes what the Roman soldiers did to Jesus body.
She really enjoyed helping me in this way! After she wacked on the pecans for a few minutes she decided to see what it felt like to wack herself on the head with the wooden spoon.

It wasn't long after this that she and Clay were back in the yard and I was left to complete the Resurrection Cookies by myself. They turned out pretty good for someone who has barely boiled an egg. They were supposed to stay in the oven overnight and when you broke them apart in the morning they should be hollow-- symbolizing the Risen Saviour. They were hollow so I consider them to be a success.

I can't wait until next year to do this again with Audrey. I am sure that I will be able to post that she was involved more in the process then!

Changing the subject but to something I don't want to forget...
Audrey loves to watch DVD's that sing or dance. She doesn't watch shows or movies that actually have a storyline but we do let her watch "music videos" during breakfast or long car rides. Her favorites at the moment are the Praise Baby series. On one of them, there is a song that the lyrics are, "Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God Almighty...". During random moments during the day, she will burst out in "o-ly, o-ly, ooooo-lllyyyy" and I just LOVE it!!! Her sweet, little toddler voice singing that song makes my heart want to explode!!!

You guys had tons of Easter fun - I liked all of her outfits!

You should check out Cedarmont Kids DVDs if she like singing. Jack L-O-V-E-D those when he was her age!! They have them at Lifeway - it's just kids singing songs (plus they're cheap:).
