Eight

Eight years ago today, Clay and I were walking down the aisle.

We met at an electric cooperative during the summer of 1997. I was a student worker there (and fresh out of highschool) and he was a co-op engineer. We went on our first date in September of that year. Up until that point I had a curfew of 10:30 and I was not allowed to go out of town with anyone. Being that we only had fast food and the Golden Corral-- that usually made for some pretty swanky dates! When Clay called to ask me "out" I was so excited! I remember taking the call upstairs, listening to Clay ask me, telling him that I would call him back because I had to ask my parents and then RUNNING downstairs to ask them if I could go. I was certain that they would say no because they didn't know Clay's momma, daddy, granddaddy, aunt, uncles, cousins, brothers, etc. and he wanted to take me to a town an hour and a half away. You can't even imagine my surprise when they didn't even hesitate and said yes immediately. A little background-- my daddy also worked at the electric cooperative and he knew Clay long before I ever met him. Clay apparently made an impression on him! We went out a bit that fall and the next year but Clay went back to Auburn and I was focused on being a freshman and doing all that freshmen do! We didn't seriously date until I moved to Troy in the fall of 1998. The rest is history...
