I have actually gotten a few sewing projects from my pile completed in the past few weeks. Notice I said weeks! These would normally take me a few uninterrupted hours to do but I have to space the "working" time out throughout Audrey's naps.
First-- Lesa smocked this dress so long ago we can't remember for sure if she actually smocked it. I know it wasn't me because I just learned how to do those lazy-daisy stitches so it must have been her!

When I found it, it was at the bottom of a box of old fabric. It had been smocked but the dress had not been constructed. I REALLY do not like sewing itty-bitty bishops together (I've only done one and it was a nightmare) so I sent it to a lady in Greenville that does heirloom sewing. She constructed it but didn't hem it.

I finished the hem and ta-da! Audrey has a sweet little blue bishop!

Another dress I found in that same pile of fabric is a dress that I started way back in 2002. It was a dress that was supposed to be Meredith Grace's Easter present for her very first Easter. Apparently I gave her something else!! When I found it I remembered why I made it but I couldn't remember what smocking plate I used. Notice how the sleeves are blue, green and pale pink?

Now look at the neckline smocking.

Odd, huh?
I could not figure out why in the world I would have smocked those colors on the sleeves but only smocked white on the neckline. I put that dress back in the pile of fabric and thought about it for a couple of days. It finally dawned on me.

The smocking plate is called "Party Ribbons" and I couldn't find it anywhere around this house!! I am cutting myself some slack about that though because I have moved three times since I actually smocked the dress. I eventually found a new one in Greenville.
This is the front of the dress. I think next time I will use wider ribbons. Maybe polka-dot? Something fun and less fru-fru I think.

The ribbons hang down about half-way down the back of the dress. I am glad they are in the back because Audrey would love to chew on them if she could get her hands on them!

My next project is to finish some curtains for the bathroom in Tennessee. After that, I need to finish the curtains for Audrey's playroom. I started those when I was still pregnant. Isn't that sad?
I then plan to make Audrey some t-shirts that have an "A" on them. I found some precious fat quarters of Amy Butler fabric on ebay. They are the perfect size to make monograms out of. I also found some tee-niney shorts at Target that were on clearance for a dollar. I think that combining a cute little "A" shirt with those shorts will make an adorable play outfit for Audrey this summer.
I read somewhere that if you write things on your blog it will make you more accountable for those things. We'll see......

Oh so true...I most likely would have never posted about our Easter cupcakes if I had not promised a "third project"!!! You have been busy nd I L-O-V-E the fru-fru ribbon/dress.
I also L-O-V-E the fact that you have joined us now and know what us SAHM's actually do everyday and it is everything EXCEPT taking naps and eating bon-bons!!! I actually saw an old friend in Wal-mart the other day that is now staying home with her two children. I asked her how she likes being home with the kids and she said, "It's hard! A lot more work than my job was!!!" You think???
I know being a SAHM would be more work than my job!! Everyone who knows anything about my job would agree:)
My favorite is the ribbon dress. I love that!
So excited to be like Britney!! One of my life goals:)
Wow! You are so talented. I'm not a full time stay at home mom, but I am during the summers and I can tell you that there is NO way I could find the extra time to get any smocking done if that makes you feel better. Being a mommy IS a full time job! LOL I love the dresses...gorgeous! The dress Addison wore in the photos was my great-grandmother's baby gown (it's over 100 years old). I had my pics in it, both of my girls did too. I made the mistake of taking a Sunday dress for Anna Beth to wear and found out when I put it on her that it was not quite long enough. Oh well, guess that's what I get for not trying it on her before we left. She's growing like a weed! BTW, can't believe you rode in a hot-air balloon! Good for you..I'd be terrified! I'm such a chicken though!
I really like your post. You are so talented!
those dresses are beautiful. i'm glad to know there are some people of our generation who still carry on these wonderful talents. i just dont have the desire to do it although is spend way to much money for them and i probably need to learn!!!!
I love the dresses and hopefully will find the time to do some smocking of my own one day maybe for my future little girls or nieces. I absolutely adore the ribbon dress, but I am a firm believer that you can never be to fru-fru!!!
The dresses are beautiful!! I haven't gotten very far in my sewing at all. I am sure when this new baby comes I can hang up getting much of anything done. You are probably able to get more done now than you will in months to come! It was around 15 months when my girls refused nap time! While I unloaded the dishwasher today Emily my almost 3 year old decided that the fish needed to eat. She dumped the entire container of fish food in the tank. Needless to say we had progresso soup and salad for dinner and I just finished cleaning her mess in time for bed.
Love the dresses, Christi. You've always been so talented!!!! Maybe if I decid to go for 3, and it happens to be a girl, I'll know who to call on to make me those pretty dresses--you!!! :)
I'd like to take a trip to B'ham to see you!! :) I NEED to learn some photography tips from you. :)
Cool ribbon dress! I'm glad you figured it out, because Audrey will look adorable in it!!!
Also, I still haven't finished that advent calendar...maybe before I have grandkids. :)
