Lazy Days of Summer....

My sweet friend Kelly's husband works for Marvin's and they opened a store in my hometown. He had to go down to the "Grand" opening Friday so they decided to take advantage of being that close to the beach and head on down for a long weekend. While he worked, Kelly and her little boy, Griffin, spent some time with me at my parents house. We enjoyed a good bit of time in the pool, riding around on the golf cart looking at cows, the "digger" (back-hoe) and Catawba worms, Catawba trees, the corn in the garden, the tomatoes, the scuppernongs or as we say, "scupplin's" and just hanging out. I think Griffin's favorite thing was Laura's kitchen though!

I stayed down there until Saturday and we spent a whole lot of time doing nothing. It was wonderful!

Well, we did ride the golf cart a whole lot, eat tons of boiled peanuts, grill hamburgers, swing, rock that baby, eat watermelon and play in the pool some more.

She doesn't look like she was enjoying the watermelon, does she? She sat there and picked at that watermelon for about 20 minutes and ate every bit of it! I think she is just concentrating on the "prize" in this photo.

Clay and I have been "talking" about having a mini-garden at our house for years. We never could decide where to put it so the neighbors wouldn't report us to the homeowners association or something. Clay's been doing a lot of mutilating trimming of our shrubbery so we now have a rather large area on the side of our house where azaleas used to be. We are chancing it and planted some tomatoes, squash and watermelon in that flower bed.

That's pretty impressive for a first time tomato grower isn't it? Don't be impressed. I bought that plant with the tomatoes already on it!!! What will be impressive is if I remember to water those poor plants in that "garden".

You should have had it planted about a month ago so you would have to worry about watering it for a few weeks with all the rain we had!!! Caroline and I have been having to water our garden the last few days and I am afraid it is going into shock not having all that rain water:) Good luck!!!
